This morning Peter, David, Isaac and I went for a walk. It is a beautiful sunny day. Spud Fest starts tonight, so the carnival is being set up in the school parking lot across the street. What fun! I pushed the younger two in the stroller and Peter rode his bike, backpack filled with all manner of necessities firmly in place on his back.
We began our walk headed away from the carnival - my mom had called and it was windy, this made it quieter for her. Once we hung up, we turned around and headed back towards the carnival. What fun! And as Peter wistfully and longingly looked at each and every ride, begging to ride them, I reminded him that the carnival doesn't open until tonight and we'd need to talk with Daddy about when we could go. He quickly whipped out his imaginary cell phone, called Daddy and asked if we could go tonight. Daddy, of course, said sure!
Beyond the carnival, we paused to check for cars before crossing the street. Peter is becoming very good at remembering to stop. He and David wanted to go to the playground, so we ambled on towards Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church's Rainbow play system. Who needs the newest, biggest and best? We are very content to play there!
Walking along our familiar route I was met with a sudden and overwhelming feeling of nostalgia. It came out of nowhere, but suddenly I was remembering all the evening strolls down to the lake, before the rains hid the beach, to let Lucy swim after her tennis ball and to introduce Peter, and later David, too, to the lake. I looked with fondness (fondness???) at the dumpy, run-down, OLD house where the "bike man" lives. He collects and fixes bikes all winter and sells them from his frightening garage all summer. Across the street stands the brown split-level house with huge lilac bushes in front. The blooms are such a beautifully stark contrast to the unkempt home and yard, and their fragrance? Oh, my... As we passed the house today, Peter asked, "Mom, why is their garage door always open?" I smiled and shrugged. Some things we will never know.
We reached the church's playground. The boys gleefully ran to the swings and we swung to our hearts' content. I tried the monkey bars. Never mind. I am terribly out of shape! Peter rode the rhino and the hippo, David threw fist-fulls of sand and Isaac slept peacefully in the stroller. When it was time to leave, I told the boys that this might be our last time playing at this playground and to say good bye to it! I choked back the tears and we ambled on.
Peter asked to go see the lake and since it was still an hour until lunchtime, I agreed. Once we got there, Peter begged to walk down the hill to throw a stick into the water so he could yell, "Stick! Stick!" (like in a book we currently have checked out from the library - except that they boy in the book has a boat, not a stick) I said yes. He walked down the hill and threw in his stick. And another. And another. And another. And then he found a rock. And then David wanted to get out, too, so I had to reign Peter back in before I had complete and utter chaos on my hands.
Walking back towards home, I gazed longingly at all the houses we passed. Even though I've never met the owners more than a quick "hello" as we walked past, I felt a connection to them now. We were practically neighbors, after all. I noticed the cactus sitting in the Coors Light can on the front step of the bachelor pad. The pretty roses lining the driveway of the freshly painted house next door. All the young toddler toys out in the yard of the next house and I wondered how old their son was now and if they'd had another over the winter? And then across the street was the pretty green split with the immaculate yard. They were getting a new roof today. We stopped at the crosswalk, crossed the street and noticed the gray house on the corner had a new, freshly paved driveway. I longed to go rollerblading on it! Next was the small, non-descript house followed by the weird, small, unkempt house which is followed by the brown split whose garage is always open. Next door is a small church where we went this past spring to watch the movie Courageous. Peter still talks about the bad men who had guns. :)
Eagle Lake Road, the busy, frightening street that we have to cross now has a crosswalk, but not everyone sees the people waiting to cross. Today is a good day, though. The drivers stop for us before we even reach the street! And then, to my left, is the cemetery. The cemetery that signals where to turn ("if you go past the cemetery, you've gone too far!"), the cemetery where we've walked as a family and the kids have climbed on old tombstones, the cemetery where I've played fetch with Lucy. Perhaps that's a bit irreverent, but no one ever said otherwise.
I decide it's getting close to lunchtime, so we head for home. But with all these memories sweeping back over me, I'm getting nervous about our upcoming move. We've lived and raised our three sons here for the past three years. Coborn's is so close. And the library. And Caribou. And the pizza place! Is it a mistake to move? We won't have the lake super close anymore! Homesick. That's what I am.
For the past three years, we've longed to move, long to get out of an apartment and back into a house with a yard and space for the kids and dog to run and play. We've longed to be closer to Luke's work, to our church. And yet now that it's here - I'm scared!
Nostalgic: wistful, longing, homesick.
Big Lake has been good to us. We've met some nice people ("Uncle" Pat, the nice lady in the organic section at Coborn's, Preston and his little sister Bella) and made many, many memories. And you know what? We may have been apartment dwellers these past three years - the last year on the third floor without an elevator, facing the parking lot - but I'm already forgetting the hard things and clinging fondly to the happy memories. And you know what one of the things I love best about our heavenly Father is? While He doesn't promise that everything will be easy and fun, He does promise to be right there with us. And so I take His hand. I trust Him. And I smile at the future.

David-isms
Since David put his teeth into the inside of his lip last Friday, woke with a fever on Saturday and puked that night and has been sick/CRABBY ever since, he's been on my mind a lot. :)
Here's a few cute new things he's been saying that won't last long:
Here's a few cute new things he's been saying that won't last long:
- Nommy (mommy)
- Yes, Nommy (when I'm trying to get him to say "yes, please")
- No, please (vs. no, thank you)
- Mmm-hmmm (after saying "yes" a few too many times, apparently
:) LOVE!

My Boys
It seems that I only have tiny snippets of time for doing ANYTHING anymore. Very tiny snippets. Tiny.
Oh, well. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord - even for tiny snippets of time!
So...
Isaac is 2 1/2 months old, growing like a weed, drooling everywhere, smiling up a storm, able to follow a moving object (or person) with his eyes and sleeping much better than he was in the beginning - in fact, I can often put him down and he'll fall asleep on his own. His eyes are still blue. His hair is still brown and he has lots of it! He loves his Nuk. He loves his family. We love him!
David is 23 months old. Almost 2 already! Where DOES the time go? His vocabulary is growing and growing and growing...I cannot keep up any longer. He'll repeat just about anything Peter tells him to repeat. He loves to help with Isaac: holding, kissing, hugging, throwing away diapers, giving him his pacifier, etc. He loves the song "Behold" (is that the correct title? The words are, "behold, behold, I stand at the door and knock, knock, knock...."). He will walk over to me and say, "knock, knock, knock!" That's my cue to burst into song.
Peter is almost 3 1/2. He loves his brothers. He loves being the oldest brother! He loves his friends, playgroup, BSF (and is very sad that it's over for the year!), grandparents, the cabin and garage sales. He saw a random sign at a park one day and thought for sure it must be a garage sale sign. He also loves to find things for "real cheap" at garage sales. Hmmm...wonder where he picked that up?
We are moving to Ramsey! That's right, folks. We're trading in the apartment for a house! Not our own house, of course, but a house. A nice house. A huge house! One that will allow Luke to walk to work, come home for lunch and say "hi!" to us if we're out in the yard at the same time (while he's at work!). Zero commute. We're thrilled! And, as we continue to comb the housing market for "just the right house" we can relax and take our time. So stay posted, folks, stay posted. We're, hopefully, one step closer to our own home. At least we're in the right area, and my, oh, my do I have memories in this house from my youth. But that is another story for another blog post!
Pictures to come!

Rainy Day Rambling
Isaac Lloyd Willing
March 13, 2012
8lbs. 8ozs.
22" long
10:07pm
People often ask where his middle name came from. Must be a family name, right? Right! The name belonged to my late grandpa: Lloyd Leroy Prigge. Oh, how I loved him and miss him! I often wish that my husband and children could have had the opportunity to know him. The Lord had other plans - and I am grateful that my husband and children know as many of my family members that they do know! (Did that even make sense?)
Anyway, Isaac is here. We are blessed with a happy, easy-going baby who has recently learned how to smile. Baby smiles just make me melt.
Happy rainy Saturday to you!

Stuff I Found From March 23, 2012
So I know that in, you know, ten years or so, this will seem like no big deal. It's April 30th and I'm finally getting around to posting some notes I scribbled down on March 23rd. No big deal, right? But for the moment, it is for me!
PETER:
PETER:
- "I think he wants to go home now." Said when Isaac was crying one day shortly after coming home from the hospital. Luke chuckled and said, "He IS home!"
- Another day he told me that he thought Isaac wanted to go back to the hospital. I asked why and he told me it was so that Isaac could go back into my stomach. HA!
- He told me one day that he and David stayed home alone during my and Luke's wedding. :) As if.
- He loves Isaac; loves being my big helper; loves holding Isaac.
- He loves his *new* carseat that we bought for him in, oh, January-ish? He frequently tells people about it.
- Today after carefully inspecting my rather dry/cracked heels commented, "Mom, your feet are just exploding!"
DAVID:
- Recently started eating cheese. Cheddar cheese.
- Words:
- cheese
- da-bee (baby)
- me (when sees pictures of himself)
- Lucy
- more
- please
- Bibua (long "i") (Bible)
- mama
- Likes to mimic words and actions
- Says "Ooohhhh" after he poops.
- Poops often in the tub. And then he screams. :)
ISAAC:
- Outgrowing NB clothes and diapers already! (as of 3/23)
- happy disposition - content to hang out in bouncy seat
- first several nights home was awake most of the night. Gradually getting better. Was up from about 10:00-4:30, then 10:00-1:30, then until 11-11:30ish.
- Doesn't spit up very much.
- Eats well and learned how to do it very quickly. He eats fairly quickly, too.
- At his 1 week (from discharge date) check-up, he had gained 13 ozs! Went from 8-8ozs at birth to 8-1oz at discharge to 8-14!
- No jaundice. Yay!
- SO much hair!

Catching Up
Having three kids definitely consumes more of my time than two did. Today is a rare day: David is napping. Isaac is napping. Peter is watching a video (he fell asleep!). All of this is happening SIMULTANEOUSLY! Time to catch up!
Since I haven't updated this poor lil' blog for so long, here goes!
Wait! Did I mention Isaac? Allow me to introduce the cutest little addition to our family!
And now all three are awake. I knew it was too good to last! Maybe tomorrow.
